Yuletide Recs
If there's a theme this year, I think it would be taking minor/secondary/forgotten characters and showing just how awesome they are.

Addams Family (movie):
Wednesday, November 25, 2009.  What Wednesday Addams grew up to be.  Beautiful, packs a punch, will leave you wanting more.

Alien (s):
Killing Elvis.  Epistolary narrative of what happened back in the labs after Alien 3.  Funny, tragic, and well-written.  Also, it's good to see epic stupidity get its just deserts.
Subtle Salvation.  Corporations come and go, as do wars, but the monster always lurks under your bed.  How Ripley's story didn't end (AU after the second movie).

Ballet Shoes:
Turning Points.  On a chilly night late in 1956, Pauline, Petrova, and Posy meet over dinner for the first time in five years and rediscover what having sisters can mean.  (Written for me!)

Beauty and the Beast (Disney):
Rose Without Thorn.  Belle is not as happy as she thinks she should be. Then again, maybe she is.

Calvin and Hobbes:
The Lengthy Dimly-lit Coffee Break of the Soul.  Calvin looks for a job. Hobbes and Susie look after Calvin.

Casablanca:
The Fundamental Things Apply.  Everybody comes to Rick's. And some people are very diferent when they leave.  Yvonne, and life, and growing up.
Sam in Casablanca.  No matter how far he travels, Sam finds the pull of Casablanca hard to escape. Maybe it's because Rick left him there.  If you read no other Yuletide stories this year, you must read this one.  It is stunningly gorgeous.

Love Actually:
Impropriety.  It's taking Natalie a while to adjust to being in the spotlight.

Marvel Comics:
Help Wanted.  In which the Avengers go scouting for members, Steve stops worrying and learns to love the 21st century, and some people just aren't team players.

Peter Wimsey:
No Man's Land (Crossover with Torchwood and Doctor Who).  "We're all dead to you, aren't we?"

Rio Bravo:
My Three Good Companions.  Fifteen years after the standoff with Burdette's men, Colorado comes back through town.

The Sound of Music:
Older and Wiser.  Rolfe at war.

Temeraire:
wisdom to the mighty, honor to the brave.  Several scenes aboard the HMS Allegiance, while en route to Terra Australis: wherein privacy is violated, compromises are struck, and Tharkay finds himself designated nursemaid to a group of hopelessly self-destructive aviators.
On the merits of patience.  On the journey to the New South Wales Colony, Temeraire must remind himself of the merits of patience.
Sense, but no Sensibility.  There were many things Captain Jane Roland had little patience with, and one of the foremost was others of her sex. Sometimes including the dragons.  What I've been hoping for since Iskierka first appeared--Roland going to talk sense into her!
A Room with a View.  Perscitia learned a great many things, after the invasion.
Gemology.  Emily has some questions.

Terminator:
Eudaimonia.  We are not studying in order to know what virtue is, but to become good, for otherwise there would be no profit in it.—Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics 2.2.  James Ellison and John Henry discuss the nature of virtue.
Five Reasons.  John Connor creates himself, choice by choice.

Vorkosiverse:
Last Words.  Galeni burns an offering for his aunt.
Sworn in Silence.  The only sound he could hear was a shrieking thunderclap that had rocked the world off its moorings – the only sound in the world, echoing and reechoing, and ending in a wash of blood.  Aral, in the first hours of Mad Yuri's War.
The Rules of Barrayaran Sex.  Cordelia's never been good at following rules.

Yuletide Madness!
Anthropomorphic Web2.0.  Stumbling after the sun.  LJ and Dreamwidth bond on the shores of Lake Internet.

Calvin and Hobbes.  Destination Everywhere.  It turns out Calvin can't flip burgers for more than two hours, but he didn't tell his parents he lost the job. There'd be questions he just isn't prepared to answer. Like, "but why did you put the hose there?" and "how many times?"

Static Shock.  Peeking in the Closet.  Sharon suspects Virgil and Richie are secretly dating. This entry was originally posted at http://beatrice-otter.dreamwidth.org/157211.html. Please comment there using OpenID.
